LAURA LIPPMAN talks to Paul Burke about Murder Takes a Vacation, Mrs. Blossom, why this was the hardest book to write, Mick Herron, writing TV with Megan Abbott and getting to live a fantasy life.

Every week we will bring you a chat with a favourite crime author, or maybe one who will become a favourite in the future. Your regular host is Paul Burke, editor of Aspects of Crime, but we’ll be inviting guest presenters and introducing new themes as we go along. The first guest is Laura Lippman, known for her dark psychological thrillers. Though her latest novel is a bit of a change of pace. You might say Murder Takes a Vacation is a cosy crime. Whatever you call it, it is a brilliant read, witty, sharp and Mrs. Blossom is a phenomenal creation.
Episode 1: LAURA LIPPMAN talks to Paul Burke about Murder Takes a Vacation, Mrs. Blossom, why this was the hardest book to write, Mick Herron, writing TV with Megan Abbott and getting to live a fantasy life.
Are you a TV crime drama fan? Vera? Shetland? Our next guest is Crime Writers Association Diamond Dagger winner, Ann Cleeves, (the lifetime achievement award is the highest honour). Her novels spawned the two TV series and, of course, we’ll be talking about that but more about her novels and her writing. Her latest crime thriller sees the return of Jimmy Perez. Only this time he’s investigating a murder on Orkney not Shetland. And Vera may be finished on TV but Ann has another book in the pipeline.
To round off our first month we have Canadian bestseller Louise Penny. Author of the Armand Gamache series. All set around Three Pines but you’d be very mistaken if you thought this was just about murder in a small town. Black Wolf could not be more relevant to the current state of world affairs. We get into the politics and the writing.
We are open to suggestions for guests
