Hello from the Editor

Paul BurkeHello, I’m Paul Burke, the editor of Aspects of Crime. I worked in industry and the voluntary sector for many years before turning my reading habit into a job. I now write about books full-time, mostly crime fact and fiction. Since 2018 I have been an interviewer, reviewer and writer of articles and features for magazines and online publications, including in the past Monocle and NB Books. I currently write for Crime Fiction Lover, Crime Time and the European Literature Network. I am the editor/presenter of the Crime Time FM podcast and am a judge for the Crime Writers Association Gold Dagger and the Spymasters Podcast Book Prize. In the past I have been a judge for the British Book Awards, The Nibbies. I’m currently at work on my first book An Encyclopedia of Spy Fiction, which, if it doesn’t finish me off, will be published in Autumn 2026.

I love crime writing, fact and fiction, across the genre and on screen too for that matter. From Golden Age gems to Noir to contemporary, The Maltese Falcon, LA Confidential, The Slow Horses, Val McDermid, Walter Mosley, Abir Mukherjee, Kate Summerscale, Nicholas Shakespeare, Ben McIntyre, SA Cosby, Anna Mazzola, Kellye Garrett, Vaseem Khan, Charles Cumming, MW Craven, Charlotte Philby, Abigail Dean, Chris Lloyd… (I could go on.)
